Who We Are
Team Green Basketball Academy is a Long Island, New York based non-profit, dedicated to mentoring school aged kids to build essential life skills, and become future leaders of society. What started as just a basketball camp has developed to an Academy and a safe place where professional players and trainers offer intensive basketball training that develops physical skills, while guest speakers and community leaders also come to develop the minds of our youth. Mental health, communication, servant leadership, and self-care, are just a few of the vital lessons discussed.
Faithful to developing and enriching the lives of those we serve on and off the court, Team Green Basketball Academy provides community service opportunities, financial education seminars for families and kids, educational development, such as SAT prep courses and tutoring, and many events that uplift communities and encourage unity.
Who We Serve
Since 2009, Team Green, a family owned organization, serves kindergarten through 12th grade, from low to middle income households, to build essential skills such as leadership, communication, discipline and more through sports. We have held summer camps in Texas, North Carolina, Toronto, but our base camp is Long Island, New York.
What Needs Funding
Hosting impactful and inclusive camps can get costly. To continue and expand our reach, offering a unique summer camp experience and strengthening families, we need funding so that more kids can participate at no cost.
Why It Matters
Children in our communities are dying and we can help. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), sedentary lifestyles increase all causes of mortality, doubles the risks of cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure, depression, and anxiety – which largely, are all preventable. Team Green Basketball Academy plays a major role in getting our youth active and healthy again by challenging them physically and providing a space for personal growth, introducing them to positive role models, and making memories that will last a lifetime.
How Our Community Has Been Involved
- Previous camp participants offer their time and talents to return as camp leaders
- Faithful families and friends give annually to our Camper & Scholarship fund which has allowed for over 30 students each year to attend at no cost.
- Our sponsors Puma, Roc Nation, PowerAde and Body Armor invest in prizes, attire, and other unique items for our youth.
